National Abigail Day
Back in the 17th century the name Abigail began to be used as a generic term for a personal servant, a gentlewoman who served a lady. Such famous writers as Jonathan Swift, Charlotte Brontë, and Sir Walter Scott wrote of Abigails.
We like to think of this day as being in honor of all of those who served in such a capacity, often underpaid and overworked, with little hope of a better life to come. So, we will dedicate this Abigail Day to all who served, and who still serve, in this way. Unsung heroines and heroes, many of them.
