Cuckoo Dance Week
Sometimes it seems as though the world has gone mad. Crazy. Wacker doodle, out of its mind.
To be clear, there are good ways to be wacky and not-so-good ways to be nutty. So we thought we’d emphasize, here at the beginning of the year, some of the more harmless and fun ways. And what better embodiment of completely silly and off the wall fun than Laurel and Hardy doing the Cuckoo Dance.
(We were unable to use an actual photo of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, so we had to use actors to play the parts. We think they do an admirable job.)
Composed by Hal Roach Studios music director Marvin Hatley, “The Dance of the Cuckoos” became Laurel and Hardy’s theme song. The duo thought the combination of the plodding melody and the cuckoo harmony perfectly expressed their two characters in a light-hearted way.
Since Cuckoo Dancing Week starts today, we thought we’d encourage others to express themselves to the silly tune. Check out some Laurel and Hardy movies and clips to get in the spirit. And then let yourself go!
